Hi everyone,
Maya here. As a young woman, I am in one of the demographic groups that is least likely to vote in today's General Election. I want us to change that.
Please vote. You've got until 10pm. You don't need ID or your poll card.
The voice of young people in politics has traditionally been limited because we are the least likely demographic to vote. In 2017, only 57% of 18-19 year olds voted (YouGov. This means that the issues young people care about are less politically important. We are often ignored.
This is even worse amongst young women. Just 46% of women aged 18-30 say they will definitely vote in the election. Let's change that statistic. If we do vote at the same rate as the total population, a MILLION extra votes would be cast.
We tweet, we sign petitions, we march and now, WE MUST VOTE.
Happy Election Day everyone,
Maya
PS Everyone should vote! I'm just sending out a special plea to my generation of women because we're the least likely to vote!
