The Issue

Hi, my name is Oscar, I’m 12 years old, and I’m starting this petition because I believe Pokémon collecting is becoming unfair for children.

Most major Pokémon card releases happen during school hours. While kids are sitting in lessons, products are already selling out before school even finishes. Meanwhile, scalpers and resellers often dominate queues and buy large amounts of stock, making it harder and harder for real young collectors to get anything at retail price.

This is not about hating adult collectors because there are loads of genuine adult Pokémon fans too. Pokémon should be for everyone.

The problem is that the hobby is starting to feel inaccessible for kids, and that is dangerous for the future of Pokémon collecting.

Every adult collector started as a kid who loved Pokémon first. If children stop being able to enjoy releases, collect cards, trade with friends, and experience the excitement of the hobby, eventually they lose interest completely. And if younger generations stop enjoying Pokémon, the hobby slowly dies over time.

Pokémon has always been about more than just cards. It’s about community, memories, trading, collecting, and excitement. For lots of children, opening Pokémon packs is one of the best parts of growing up. But right now many kids feel like they never even get a fair chance before products are gone.

People always say “just get there early,” but realistically most responsible parents are not taking their children to queue outside stores at 5 or 6 in the morning on a school day, and children should not have to miss school just to buy Pokémon cards.

I believe retailers and The Pokémon Company could help improve this.

This petition is not about asking for special treatment. It is about asking for fairness and making sure children still have a place in a hobby that was originally created for them.

I truly believe stores like Smyths could lead the way and help make Pokémon collecting fun and accessible for kids again.

Please sign and share this petition if you believe children deserve a fair chance to enjoy Pokémon too.
