The Issue

Hello fellow students, faculty, and members of the community,

I am reaching out to you to address an issue that has been affecting our student life on campus. Our University Center, which should be a hub of student activity and engagement, is falling short of its promise. Despite being a vital part of our university’s infrastructure, it is not fulfilling its true purpose – to serve as a space for students.

As students, we deserve access to spaces within our University Center for events, gatherings, and college-specific functions, including putting things on the walls. Making our spaces feel like a home. Letting us have club access and decoration for our spaces. We shouldn't feel restricted in a building we pay for!

Unfortunately, many of our events are being cancelled or moved elsewhere because we aren't granted the necessary access. This not only hampers our ability to hold successful events but also limits our sense of community and belonging. Our ballroom is being rented out to the public instead of being booked for ACTUAL COLLEGE EVENTS.

The University Center should be a place where we can host everything from social gatherings and study sessions to club meetings and career fairs. Allowing students to fully utilize this space can significantly enhance our campus experience, improve our academic and social lives, and build a stronger university community.

We must advocate for the flexibility and accessibility necessary in using these spaces. Striking a balance between administrative use and student-led activities is essential. Effective and efficient coordination with university officials can help lay down guidelines that ensure equitable sharing of the University Center. This includes scheduling transparency and the prioritization of student requests where feasible.

According to recent surveys, universities that empower students through accessible community centers witness an increase in student satisfaction and engagement by over 30%. This demonstrates that when students have the right to use their communal spaces, it enhances their academic and personal growth.

I urge you to sign this petition so that we can collectively voice our demand for action. Let's work together to reclaim the spaces that belong to us, and ensure they serve the very students they were meant to support. It’s time to make our University Center truly student-friendly.

Signing this petition is a vital first step towards achieving a campus environment that is both supportive and inclusive for all. Thank you for your time and consideration, and let's bring about this much-needed change together.
