Make Our Streets Safer: Petition for Traffic Calming on NW 56th, 58th, and 60th Streets
Make Our Streets Safer: Petition for Traffic Calming on NW 56th, 58th, and 60th Streets
The Issue
We need your help to protect our neighborhood and make our streets safe for everyone. Lately, NW 56th, NW 58th, and NW 60th Streets have seen a dangerous increase in speeding vehicles cutting through between NW Biggs Street and N Coast Highway 101. Drivers are actively using our residential pavement as a high-speed bypass to avoid nearby unpaved gravel roads. Because these long stretches lack traffic calming measures, commuters frequently treat our family-oriented neighborhood like a major thoroughfare, putting walking neighbors, children, and pets at constant risk.
To restore safety to our community and stop this cut-through traffic, we are petitioning the city to install specific traffic controls that will force drivers to slow down and stop. Our goal is to secure the placement of mid-block speed bumps on NW 56th Street, NW 58th Street, and NW 60th Street(each positioned centrally between NW Biggs Street and Highway 101). Additionally, we are requesting all-way stop signs for both directions on NW 58th Street at the intersection of NW Biggs Streetto eliminate blind spots and prevent reckless crossings.
Please take a moment to sign this petition and stand up for a safer neighborhood. Your signature provides the vital community proof needed to convince city planners to take immediate action. Once we gather our local signatures, we will formally present this petition to the traffic engineering department to demand these necessary safety installations. If you are having issues with traffic control on a street not mentioned here, please feel free to message me directly so we can adjust the petition to include your area. Thank you for protecting our streets!
