Dear supporters,
A quick update on the Albanese Government’s changes to make HECS fairer.
Tomorrow on 1 June, HECS debts will increase by 4.7 per cent.
Don’t worry. That’s based on the old unfair system that we are fixing.
To fix it, we have to pass legislation through Parliament.
That will happen later this year.
And when that happens your HECS debt will drop.
This will save someone with the average student debt of $26,500 around $1,200.
For someone with $45,000 in student debt, you will save around $2,000.
This will apply to all HELP, VET Student Loan, and Australian Apprenticeship Support Loan accounts that existed on 1 June last year.
Once again, thank you for raising your voice. We are making the HECS-HELP system fairer for all Australians.
You can find out how this will benefit you here: https://www.education.gov.au/helpestimator.
Yours sincerely,
Jason Clare
Minister for Education
