Make obtaining copy of CBSE answer sheets affordable for students
The Issue
Results for Class 12th CBSE Exams have been announced, and my son is certain he received lower marks than deserved in certain subjects. Unfortunately, the cost of obtaining a copy of the answer sheet for verification purposes is unnecessarily high. The amount of Rs 700 per subject is more than double that of the exam fee of Rs 320 per subject. And unlike earlier years, the CBSE doesn't have to do any scanning on the request of the candidate. The answer sheets are already scanned and it takes no further action on the part of the CBSE than to simply forward the same to the student. Given this, the Fee for Paper can be easily reduced. In fact increasingly this may not merely be a question of students wanting to review their answer sheets for applying for reevaluation. Students may just also want to keep a record of their exam paper as a souvenir of a very important step in their life's journey.
This is an issue not only for me and my son but for countless others who might feel the same way about their examination results and the cost of the obtaining a copy of their answer sheets. In fact for lakhs of students, the cost of obtaining the copy of a single paper would be worth three days of their family income (wages under MGNREGA in Uttar Pradesh - which is home to the maximum number of almost 4 lakh candidates - for instance is Rs 252/- per day).
In an education system where transparency and accuracy are vital for the fair evaluation of student performance, this verification process should be accessible to all students, regardless of their financial background. To achieve this, we call upon the CBSE to significantly reduce the fees associated with obtaining answer sheet copies. As the answer sheets are already scanned and available, we think the cost should not exceed Rs 100/- per subject.
We, therefore, urge the CBSE Board to reconsider and revise its fee structure to make it more affordable and equitable. Let's make sure that no student feels disadvantaged or unable to double-check their results due to financial constraints.
