Make NYC Politicians Pay Their Share of the Congestion Toll

Make NYC Politicians Pay Their Share of the Congestion Toll
The Issue
I am a regular New Yorker, just like you, left perplexed and frustrated by the audacity of our city's politicians. Major figures, including Eric Adams, avidly supported the implementation of the congestion toll. However, these same figures do not have to pay this exact toll, and I say, 'How convenient'.
Every day, thousands of us struggle to keep up with the city's ever-increasing living costs. The congestion tax, posing as an initiative to cut down on traffic and pollution, falls heavy on us, the common people, while those responsible for the decision ironically bypass the financial burden.
According to the NYC Department of Transportation, the introduction of congestion charges followed an estimated 13% increase in peak-hour traffic volumes, leading to the worst levels of road congestion in the United States. The revenue from this charge was intended to fund public transportation projects, which unfortunately has not shown significant improvement.
While the goal of reducing traffic and aiding public transportation is commendable, it is merely fair for those who supported this taxing system to contribute as well. The politicians who propelled the congestion fee into existence should not be exempt from it. City leadership should lead by example, embodying fairness and contributing their share to the collective effort.
Join me in making our voices heard. Let's make our politicians accountable, they should pay their share of the congestion toll too. Please sign and share this petition.
