The Issue

I am writing this petition to highlight a crucial issue affecting millions of people living with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

PMOS is a complex, multisystem condition that can affect hormonal balance, metabolism, reproductive health, weight, fertility and overall quality of life. Yet many people living with PMOS continue to face significant barriers when seeking effective treatment.

For the past 20 months, I have been taking Mounjaro (tirzepatide), and it has had a profound impact on my quality of life. It has helped improve many of my PMOS symptoms and, most remarkably, I began ovulating again at the age of 39.

For me, this has been life-changing.

My experience is not unique. I have heard from other people living with PMOS who have experienced significant improvements in their symptoms and metabolic health while taking Mounjaro. For some, treatments such as Mounjaro may offer benefits that go beyond weight management and could potentially address some of the underlying metabolic aspects associated with PMOS.

Despite these experiences, Mounjaro is not routinely prescribed specifically for PMOS because it is not currently licensed as a treatment for the condition. This can leave patients with limited options and, for those who obtain the medication privately, substantial ongoing costs.

Living with a chronic condition is already challenging. Patients should not have to face additional financial hardship simply because potentially beneficial treatments have not yet been adequately investigated or incorporated into treatment pathways.

We are calling on health authorities, researchers, healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical companies to recognise the urgent need for further research into Mounjaro and other GLP-1–based treatments for PMOS.

We specifically call for:

Robust clinical research into the effectiveness and safety of tirzepatide and other GLP-1–based medicines for PMOS.
Greater recognition of the metabolic and hormonal aspects of PMOS when developing treatment guidelines.
Improved access to evidence-based treatment options for people living with PMOS.
Meaningful dialogue between patients, healthcare professionals, researchers and policymakers so that real-world patient experiences can help inform future research and clinical guidance.
Consideration of affordability and access, so that effective treatment is not limited only to those who can afford to pay privately.
We are not claiming that Mounjaro is a cure for PMOS or that it is appropriate for every patient. Rather, we are asking for the opportunity to investigate its potential properly and ensure that people living with PMOS can make informed treatment decisions alongside their healthcare professionals.

My experience of beginning to ovulate again at 39 after years of living with PMOS has shown me how significant the right treatment can be. For others, the benefits may be different—but the possibility of improving metabolic health, symptoms, reproductive function and quality of life deserves serious investigation.

By signing this petition, you are supporting people living with PMOS and calling for greater research, fairer access to treatment and healthcare policies that reflect emerging evidence and the real experiences of patients.

Together, we can help ensure that people living with PMOS are heard, that promising treatments are properly investigated, and that nobody is left without options simply because the healthcare system has not yet caught up with their needs.

Please sign and support this call for change.
