Today, 12/9/22, was a very traumatic day for Morton West High school. Rumors spread quickly and many believed multiple weapons were found and and a few students were conspiring to start a school shooting during of the the lunch periods, I do not have official evidence that lead to these rumors being true at the moment. Not to mention it’s barely been around 2 months since we last had an incident where a revolver was in the building. Even if no threat was made, gun related offenses happened in a school. This school teaches responsibility by making students pay $10 for an I.D. But this school does not take the responsibility to keep their students safe. The SOFT lockdown started at about 10am. Students were then advised to continue on to classes at 12:25. Many parents panicked at the freshman center doors hoping to see their children again. This is not okay. School needs to be a safe place to learn. We need to do something about this issue as it has not been the first incident in the semester. This situation has come out of hand and needs to be heard. Some type of protest, walkout, or even a sit-in will be a start to lead for more safety and other regulations hopefully preventing times like these from happening again.
