Make Mimico GO Station Accessible
The Issue
Addressed to: Amber Morley and Metrolinx
Petition topic: Making Mimico GO Station More Accessible
Our group chose this issue because of the lack of accessibility at Mimico Go station. The station is fairly old as there is no escalator or elevator for the public to use. In the South Etobicoke area there are many elderly and disabled individuals that rely on the Go train system to travel to work or to see loved ones. We have had first hand experiences seeing elderly individuals struggle to carry their items down the stairs only to have to bring them back up the stairs. This is important to the South Etobicoke community as accessibility for all travelers is essential to a diverse community. We want for all ages and abilities to be able to safely and comfortably travel on the Go trains. We specifically want Amber Morley to address inaccessibility on older structures within south Etobicoke and for Go Transit to modernize Long Branch and Mimico station by adding elevators from street level to the train platform.
Our requests are:
- Build elevator at the Mimico GO station
- Build ramps at the Mimico GO Station
- More than one entry and exit points as locals have reported long wait time to exit the platform
especially after sports events downtown ( Mimico Residents Association, 2026)
All in all, we are petitioning to modernize the GO Station that considers safety, accessibility as well as capacity for the commuters.
