The Issue

Add Protected Pedestrian Crossings Near Memorial Park

We are asking the City of Houston and Houston Public Works to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Shepherd Drive.

This intersection is a major access point to Memorial Park, where thousands of runners, walkers, cyclists, families, and community members travel every day. However, the current crossing conditions are unsafe due to heavy traffic, confusing vehicle movements, and the lack of protected pedestrian signals.

The result is a dangerous environment for both pedestrians and drivers, with frequent collisions occurring in this area.

We respectfully ask the City of Houston to:

  • Conduct a pedestrian and traffic safety evaluation at this intersection
  •  Install protected pedestrian crossing infrastructure, including pedestrian signals and countdown timers
  •  Implement any additional safety improvements recommended by transportation experts

A safer crossing will protect everyone who uses this important community space and help prevent avoidable accidents.

Please sign this petition to show your support for safer streets and a more accessible Memorial Park for everyone.

Your signature can help demonstrate that Houston residents want safer infrastructure for pedestrians, runners, families, and park visitors.
