I came across the story of beautiful Jorja Emerson on social media and the fight her dad Robin has had in order for Jorja to get access to medical cannabis medication after doctors told Robin to take Jorja home to die.

I flew over to Belfast and fell completely in love with little Jorja. As a mum their story really upset me and I can't imagine being told to take your child home to die!

Jorja was only 1 at the time and was having multiple seizures, over 30 a day, and on two separate occasions ended up in intensive care on a life support machine fighting to survive.

In 2018 the law changed, and that December Jorja became the first child to be prescribed medical cannabis after the law changed - although this was a private prescription.

Its over 3 years later and Jorja is now 6. She is still receiving medical cannabis treatment and is thriving, living an almost seizure free life and has not needed hospital since for her seizures!

There are now thousands of other Jorja’s and there are approximately 10,000 private prescriptions in place for adults and children in the UK for medical cannabis medications for various different ailments.

The government say that more clinical research needs done and that the NHS does not fund unlicensed medication.

We fully accept that more clinical trials need carried out in a UK hospital setting, however when clinical need has been met and an invidual has been prescribed a medication by a clinician, then that medication should be available and funded on the NHS and not just privately.

It was also not factually correct when it was told to MPs and the public in a number of Westminster debates that the NHS does not fund unlicensed medication. The NHS spends approximately 50 million per year on unlicensed medications which have not had full clinical studies completed in the UK!

I want to use my platform to highlight this issue and support Jorja and all the other Children and Adults who should have their medication funded by the NHS.

Medical cannabis should not just be accessible by the few who can afford it or from people having to fundraise and private companies having to provide sponsorship

I will be attending Downing Street personally in May to hand in a letter to Boris Johnson (who knows, he might invite us inside!) to ask him to please step in and make sure this vital medication is funded properly via the NHS. The clinical research can still be done as those who need it get access to it immediately.

Many of these families have been paying thousands every month to keep their children alive and seizures under control.

Please sign and share this petition with all your friends and family. I will be asking my network of friends with public profiles to help and get behind this campaign.

Thanks,

Amy Childs
