You've probably heard about the classic "ocean trash" topic. But have you ever stopped to think about who's really getting affected? As you might have heard, over 70% of the earth is the ocean. not only that but 97% of all the water in the world is from the ocean. Now with all this water, there are tons of Marine mammals trying to survive. And it isn't as simple as what you've heard. Did you know that straws are only a small part responsible for marine mammal deaths?? staws kill about 1,000 sea turtles a year, and approx 250,000 die each year from plastic consumption alone. If you look at the Marine Mammal Centers patient page, you can see tons of other reasons marine mammals die such as malnourishment, and human trauma. If you look closely at the Marine Mammal Centers page, you'll see that a lot of their patients had trauma from human interaction. One of the many reasons marine mammals are endangered, and one on the more controllable side. This petition is proposing that education about marine mammals be mandatory in elementary and middle schools around the US. Sign now before more of these beautiful creatures get hurt.
