Make Las Vegas Streets Safe: Stop Drunk & Reckless Driving Now

The Issue

Children, families, and visitors deserve streets free from drunk drivers and reckless speeders. We need real solutions, and we need them now.

Las Vegas is one of the most vibrant cities in the world, but our streets are becoming increasingly dangerous. Every day, too many lives are lost or forever changed due to drunk driving and excessive speeding, especially in school zones.

We, the undersigned, demand immediate action to make our streets safer:

1. Prevent Drunk Driving
Launch a free or subsidized safe ride programs at local business and bars for anyone who has been drinking, no one should feel forced to drive impaired.
Increase sobriety checkpoints and police patrols during peak nightlife hours.
Promote public awareness campaigns about the dangers of drunk driving.

2. Protect Our Kids in School Zones
Install enhanced crosswalks, flashing signs, and speed bumps near schools.
Increase law enforcement presence during arrival and dismissal times.
Partner with schools to educate students about traffic safety, kids can become ambassadors for safe driving.

3. Use Smart Technology to Stop Reckless Speeding

Launch a Geo-Safe Zone and Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) Program in Las Vegas neighborhoods and school zones.

Geo-Safe Zones would use GPS and smart road sensors to automatically detect when a vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit in sensitive areas like schools and residential streets.

Cars driving dangerously fast (15+ mph over the limit) would trigger real-time alerts sent to local law enforcement with the vehicle’s speed and location.

Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) technology could alert drivers when they exceed the limit  or in future phases, gently limit engine power so vehicles can’t go far beyond safe speeds.

Partner with Las Vegas city officials, Nevada DOT, local universities, and tech companies to pilot this program and make Las Vegas a leader in smart, life-saving traffic innovation.

4. Make Penalties Count
Increase fines for DUI and excessive speeding, not just a slap on the wrist.
Repeat offenders should face escalating consequences, including license suspension and court appearances.

Las Vegas deserves streets where families, children, and visitors feel safe. Together, we can reduce reckless driving, prevent tragedies, and protect our community.
