The Issue

Our community parks in Laramie, Wyoming, have always been a cherished space for families, friends, and nature enthusiasts alike. However, these spaces have come under siege by vandals and those causing public nuisances, making it difficult for residents to enjoy the parks we once loved. The graffiti, destruction of property, and other disruptive behaviors are detracting from the beauty and safety of these public areas, making an urgent appeal for action necessary. WE DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE THIS WAY!

While Laramie embraces a period of positive change with city renovations—including much-needed road and sidewalk repairs and exciting updates to our public skate park—the persistent issues of graffiti and vandalism in our community spaces are not being addressed. It is heartbreaking to witness the lack of improvement in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our parks during a time when the town is otherwise thriving.

Our parks—places meant for relaxation, recreation, and family gatherings—now stand as symbols of neglect. This is not only undermining the city's efforts to enhance public spaces but also negatively impacting the lives and well-being of Laramie residents. Strong community spaces forge strong community bonds; thus, the continued degradation of these parks sends a concerning message.

A few achievable steps could transform our parks into the safe havens they were intended to be. First, surveillance cameras should be installed in key areas where vandals frequently destroy property. Second, police should conduct regular foot patrols through the parks to catch culprits in the act. Third, mandatory community service should be imposed on minors who deface public property, including trash pickup and maintenance work. Finally, for repeat offenders who are minors, their guardians should be held responsible for these actions whatever is allowed under current law.

Now is the time to act. By working together, we can ensure that Laramie's parks are not just spaces on a map but thriving, safe, and inviting environments for all residents. Let's restore pride in our community spaces and make them once again the heart of our city.

Please join me in this critical campaign to reclaim and rejuvenate the parks of Laramie. Sign this petition to send a clear message to our city leaders that the cleanliness and safety of our public parks matter to us all. At 1000 signatures I take this to the City Clerk and ask them to place our petition and issue on an upcoming City Council Regular Meeting agenda.
