Make Johnson Road Safer Before the 2027 Paving Project
The Issue
To the Falmouth Town Council and Town of Falmouth Officials:
We, the undersigned residents, neighbors, and community members, respectfully request that the Town of Falmouth take additional action to address ongoing speeding and traffic safety concerns on Johnson Road, between Route 1 and Route 88.
Johnson Road is a residential roadway with a 25 mph speed limit and serves as an important route to Town Landing. The road experiences significant pedestrian, bicycle, neighborhood, and recreational traffic, including families and children traveling to and from the waterfront.
Despite the posted speed limit, and speed feedback signs, residents continue to observe vehicles traveling at speeds that are inappropriate for this residential area. The combination of vehicle speeds, pedestrian and bicycle activity, residential driveways, and traffic traveling to and from Town Landing creates an ongoing safety concern.
With Johnson Road scheduled to be paved in 2027, we believe there is a timely opportunity to evaluate these concerns now and incorporate appropriate safety and traffic-calming improvements into the planning, design, and paving work. Addressing these issues as part of the already planned project may also provide a more practical and cost-effective opportunity to make meaningful improvements to the roadway.
By signing below, I support the Town of Falmouth evaluating and implementing appropriate traffic calming, traffic enforcement, bicycle, and pedestrian safety improvements on Johnson Road and incorporating these considerations into the planned 2027 paving project.
