This past weekend, my cat was tragically run over and left to die, with us not knowing what had occurred until a kind individual discovered him in the driveway of an house which is being refurbished. This heartbreak could have been avoided if the irresponsible driver had been required by law to stop, provide aid, or get the assistance of a local vet. 

Over one million domestic animals are run over by vehicles each year in the United Kingdom alone, with many of those being cats (Stats on U.K Road Kill, National Geographic, 2016). These animals, much like my cat, suffer when they are not given immediate aid. This situation not only brings tremendous grief to pet owners but also speaks to a significant lack of empathy and responsibility.

We humbly request legislation that makes it a requirement for drivers to stop and seek help when they hit a cat or any domestic animals. Such a law would enforce responsibility, compassion, and potentially save the lives of countless beloved pets across our nation.

For all the cats who suffer alone and the grieving families who discover them too late, we petition for this change. It's time to provide protection for those who can't protect themselves. Please, sign and share this petition.
