Make it law for armed police to also have tranquilliser gun officers as first option
The Issue
This petition is an attempt to get the use of tranquilliser guns present. I know this poses difficulty and risks but when the only option is lethal force, something must be done. If we can get enough signatures to get this idea discussed, with the input of experts, there could be hope animals in the future may be spared the terrible & unjust death Marshall & Millions had to endure unnecessarily. The recent execution in London has caused great upset.
Due to the graphic footage shared on social media and the strong reaction of viewers and people at the scene, the public should have a platform to request change to potentially avoid such violent and final responses.
This petition will give people a choice to request change should they wish to.
These innocent dogs died needlessly. De escalation was completely possible.
What was clear from the horrific footage is that at least one terrified and fleeing dog was shot dead. Had some of the officers in attendance been armed with tranquilliser guns, the outcome could have possibly been different.
Animals should have the chance of a fair trial (assessment) too. If they had been sedated, they could have been safely contained and assessed.
This can’t be an isolated incident, it just happened to be in a very public space. Something must be done to avoid the killing of animals in such horrific situations. If they must be destroyed then it should be done humanely. This could have been avoided, and as high powered guns were fired in such a public place, it’s not just an animal welfare issue. For the safety of the public, wherever tranquilliser guns can be used as a first option. They should always be present in an armed response. A change in the law could ensure a more humane response and safer for the animals involved and members of the public at the scene.
Make it law that responding armed officers to calls involving animals must have tranquilliser guns in attendance as a first option.
