Make it a legal requirement to stop and act or report after hitting a cat with a vehicle

The Issue

People who own cats as pets have to search themselves for incidents in traffic accidents involving cats. They are not protected under the dangerous driving act yet cat fatalities are higher than any other on residential roads. Cats are very outdoorsy pets and like to wander around especially in mating seasons and often dont make it home because of dangerous drivers which causes a very emotional toll on the families of these cats. If the driver of the vehicle was held more responsible they may think more about their speeds and driving behaviours before colliding with a cat and leaving them to die alone on the side of the road or get ran over even more in the middle of the road. Seeing your cats photo on social media deceased on the side of the road is not an appropriate way of finding out about a families loss.

if things dont change cats will remain unprotected in road traffic incidents and drivers of vehicles will not think twice after colliding with a much loved family member. To the owner, pets are a part of a family and cats should have the same protection and legal equality as any other person in the family. If things change, feline owners can have the confidence to know that when they let there cat outdoors they are safe from dangerous drivers or unreported traffic incidents and the driver of the vehicle would think twice about being involved in a potential hit and run situation if a prosecution or fine was possible.

too many cat owners are suffering the loss of their most loved pet due to a dangerous or inconsiderate driver colliding with their beloved family member and leaving the scene without a second though. It is illegal to not stop for a human or dog so why is it not illegal to leave a cat to die alone on the side of the road? Cats deserve the same rights as any other loved family member! Even if you dislike cats you should think twice before murdering an innocent living animal.
