This petition is deeply personal to me because my beloved cat was hit by a car and left at the side of the road. The driver didn’t stop to help, didn’t report what had happened, and simply drove away, leaving him to die. No family should have to experience the pain of knowing their pet was treated as though their life didn’t matter.

I believe that if a driver hits a cat, they should have a legal duty to stop and report it. Even if the animal cannot be saved, reporting the incident gives owners the chance to find their pet, provides injured animals with the possibility of emergency care, and encourages compassion and responsibility.

I’m starting this petition because I don’t want another family to go through the heartbreak that mine has. Cats are loved members of our families, and they deserve the same respect and dignity after a road accident as any other cherished companion animal.
