We, the undersigned, urge the Pennsylvania State Legislature to enact legislation making intentional balloon releases illegal statewide.

 

Intentional balloon releases are a harmful and unnecessary form of littering. When balloons are released into the air, they can travel hundreds of miles, polluting our environment, and harming wildlife. Balloons can:

 

•  Entangle and suffocate animals, including birds, turtles, and fish

•  Block digestive tracts, causing starvation and death

•  Get tangled in power lines, causing power outages

•  Contribute to the already overwhelming plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways

 

By making intentional balloon releases illegal, we can:

 

•  Protect Pennsylvania's wildlife and natural beauty

•  Preserve the health of our environment and waterways

•  Set an example for other states to follow in addressing this important issue
