In the ongoing sou motu case regarding dog bite on 3 November 2025, the Supreme Court has permitted all alleged dog-bite victims to intervene without monetary deposit mandated for other intervenors — particularly animal-welfare organisations and citizens seeking to defend the voiceless.

What is more saddening is the court's outlook towards dog feeders. Why they have not been invited especially individual feeders who dont run NGOs nor are affiliated to any NGO? There have been instances pan India of violence towards feeders. Many of whom are women. They have been molested, assaulted, abused and humiliated both physically & on social media platforms. Aren't they victim? Shouldn't they have the same right to approach court for justice as the dog bite victims? Then why this prejudice? Isnt feeding dogs a part of indian culture? A selfless service which even today millions of indians do silently pan india. They too have been victim of faulty & corrupt system just like dog bite victim. Its time courts start pondering on real issues. One of which is ABC and another is canine rabies & myths attached with it.

ABC has been in existence since 2001 but it ended up becoming a close door affair between municipal corporations & ABC units. No awareness was made nor community engaged in it's implementation. This Resulted in random & complaint centric approach which led to imbalance in population. Those areas where caregivers took the responsibility of getting dogs of their area sterilized those areas dog population got controlled & those where there were no caregivers dog population multiplied. 

Another reason for man dog conflict is canine rabies & myths attached with it. 

Today dog bites & rabies have become synonyms. And every dog bite considered rabid.  

And thanks to the irresponsible Indian media it has become topic of discussion in every Indian household. 

Why dogs bite? No one seems to address this. Dogs may bite due to rabies which is unprovoked biting or may bite out of provocation due to lack of 5 freedoms which are hunger, pain. fear, distress & freedom to expresss natural behaviour.

The unfortunate case of dog bites at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium during para olympics is a classic example of how unscientific & inhuman pick up by municipal ccorporations of stadium dogs in the name of VIP movement can result in dog bites. Yet no one seems to see the actual cause & all blaming  caregivers / feeders who have selflessly fed dogs, sterilized them, vaccinated them for last twenty years & not once any case of dog bite happened. 

When the entire system is corrupt it is so easy to blame powerless feeders who can't even raise their voices. The truth is that it is they who are the reason for calming dogs and their absence will surely make dogs aggressive and biting.

The court is going to come out with directions for feeding dogs in public institutions in its next hearing. There are dogs at almost every public place. Be it schools, colleges, railway stations, airports, govt offices etc including court premises across India where many lawyers and judges feed them & take care of them. Hoping the court will give directions on feeding based on pure science & in compliance of ABC rules 2023.   

Reaserch says that 90% dog bites are from nornal dogs & 10% from rabid dogs.. Although Rabies is 100% fatal but is easily preventable by vaccinating dogs.

But have we Indians been told this most vital information?   

Then why no one speaks about dog vaccination & why till today there has been no mass rabies vaccination campaign pan India. Instead fear has been created about dogs

The situation in India is such that every dog bite victim is asked to take 5 to 6 rabies shots & is forced to live in constant fear that he may die of rabies? And to add to all these myths is the hate campaign run by unverified media reports of children & adults dying of rabies due to dog bite. 

So much misinformation has been circulated about rabies & dog bites that today a bone fracture seems less painful than a dog bite. Even a nip, scratch or touch of salivi of a vaccinated non-rabid pet dog is seen with fear & vvictim is forced to take multiple vaccines.

Today common man fears dogs not because of dog bites but due to fear of being infected by rabies. 

This misinformation is leading to dog cruelties. Dogs & pups being killed, burnt and relocated. And feeders who take care of them being seeing as villains. As if they are feeding serpents, not man's best friend. 

Biting is a defence mechanism for dogs. Yet people take them to be rabid & get panicky. These bites can be easily avoided by giving dogs 5 freedoms. But till date no awareness about 5 freedoms. Common man has been deprived from this most vital information. 

Rather Dogs being labbeled aggressive, habitual biter, habitually aggressive etc.& all preparations being made to put such dogs in Shelters. Another money making proposition in the pipeline. 

A problem which could have been easily solved by creating right awareness and educating the masses has today taken the shape of non ending hysteria 

Indian Dogs have been victim of a corrupt & apathetic system which has only used them to make money. Be it 20 year old ABC or rabies vaccine business.  

Indians have a right to correct information about canine rabies but instead they have been served with all misleading & erroneous information 

Why focus has always been on dog bites & not on mitigation of dog bites? 

Supreme Court of India has a huge responsibility. To do justice to the voiceless. The voiceless who has been victim of corruption, greed & treachery by its own people. People who were suppose to be its  voice have back stabbed him & fooled the nation. Will justice be delivered  by the highest court of India????
