Everyday a dog in India is dying a cruel death and the government of India is silently watching it happen
Yesterday an army official of the rank of a Brigadier with the help of the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation got the stray dogs removed from the army cantonment area
It was also told that the Brigadier had the audacity to say to the Member of Parliament and PFA Founder Maneka Gandhi that he is above law and in his area he will do what he likes and no one can stop him from throwing dogs out of the cantonment area
The mouth of the dogs and their limbs were tied and they were thrown on the streets to die (Pic in the post)
The dogs are now with the corporation and the corrupt officials of the corporation are saying that they will release the dogs after few months once they become normal
According to a caregiver / feeder of the dogs who herself is a daughter of an army officer and used to stay in the cantonment area says that the dogs are extremely friendly and are not ferocious as claimed by the Brigadier
There are people in the area who feed the dogs and take care of them but now are scared to come out openly against the officer
As per the ABC rules 2001 the Indian stray dog can only be picked up for steriization and once done has to be dropped back to its location
Only a dog suspected of rabies can be picked up and kept for observation for 10 तो 15 days because a rabid dog will die within that period
Healthy dogs cannot be picked up and kept in confinement for months but in this case both the Brigadier and the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation have broken the law

On 23rd Jan 2023 Mala a caregiver who feeds around 70 dogs at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi came to know that there is a three day function of the Indian Coast Guard at the stadium therefore all the dogs from the stadium shall be removed for three days by the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) and put in shelters
Mala stood firmly against this most insensitive order and objected to the dogs being picked
Intially the Coast Guard officers were adamant to get the dogs removed as they feared that some untoward incident might take place but after Mala spoke to them and convinced them that the dogs are neither a threat to them nor to their guests who were coming to the function they agreed not to get the dogs removed
Mala with the help of the officers
made five enclosure for the dogs in the Stadium where they could be easily fed during the three day event
The Coast guard personnels were not only kind and compassionate towards the dogs but also used to feed dogs who were kept in the archery ground
The DIG Coast Guard himself had taken the responsibility of feeding the dogs
Mala did what our animal welfare NGOs have failed to do
For past one decade hundreds of dogs are picked up every year by the Municipal Corporation in the name of national day celebrations like Republic day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti etc and put in shelters run by NGOs
The horryfying experience of being caught every year leaves the dog traumatized and many times injured
Staying in shelters puts them in depression and many times infect them with diseases like distemper and tick fever
The worse happens when dogs get relocated as few get dropped back at wrong location
And till this date this most insensitive and unncesary drill continues
The stadium dogs would also have had the same fate had it not been the brave Mala
She stood like a wall protecting the dogs of the stadium from being picked like garbage and thrown into shelters
Hats off to Mala and the Indian Coast Guard personnels for treating our Indian dogs with respect and dignity

Mala is a wife of a retired army official
She along with the Indian Coast Guard have protected the stadium dogs and have made a precedent for others to follow
They have shown the way that how witnout removing the dogs and traumatizing them any function can be smoothly and successfully done
Why couldn't our Animal welfare NGOs and the Municipal corporations not think of such solutions?
Why have they been picking up dogs like a piece of garbage every year and dumping them in shelters when there could be far better and humane solution than this?
Did the NGOs even try to think of a solution that Mala did?
Most likeky the answer is No
It is all about ones outlook
On one hand we have people like Brigadier Rathore who have brought shame on our armed forces and on the other hand we have caregivers like Mala and Coast Guard officers like DIG Jyotinder Singh who have brought honour to our armed forces
If we don't treat our Indian dogs with dignity and respect then how do we expect others to treat them with respect
