Today is Ganesh Chaturthi. The festival of Lord Ganesha where he is worshipped for ten days in every household. Ganesha is the God of prosperity, knowledge and success.

Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life. A life which coexists with nature. Plants and animals are an integral part of it. Ganesha has the head of an elephant and torso of a human. Hanuman another God is a monkey. But unfortunately Hinduism seems now to be confined to worshiping statues in temples and homes. The spirit of Hinduism is fast disappearing.

We have seen how Elephants have been killed in Kerala in the most brutal fashion and monkeys declared vermin and ordered to be killed in Himachal Pradesh.

Monkeys have cohabited humans in villages from time immemorial. Many Hanuman temples have monkeys residing in its compound. The devotees visiting these temples have always fed the monkeys.

The Indian law says that monkeys are wild animals. Recently in Karnal Haryana an animal rescuer Rahul Singla and his two baby monkeys Bajju and Simmu were in news. Rahul had rescued the two baby monkeys and was raising them at home. The monkeys had done no harm to anyone. Never bitten anyone nor attacked anyone. But around 23 days back the wild dept forcefully took away the monkeys and released them in the jungle.

The monkeys have not been found ever since. Rahul is completely heartbroken. The monkeys were his pets. They were given food, milk and lots of love by Rahul and his family.

Most of the Indian policymakers have aped the west that too blindly. There is nothing wrong in the western countries and their policies but laws and policies should be made to govern the society and not to make the life of its people and its animals difficult.

It's not necessary that a system which is good and working very well in one country may do well in another country as well. India is very unique. It  has a very large population of animals which have cohabited with humans for thousands of years. Unfortunately our planners and developers missed this very important characteristic while designing modern India. And the result is right in front of us. Cruelty and conflict. Should the monkeys who have been living in villages and temples from time immemorial be called wild? Should all species of Indian monkeys be considered wild?

It's been 23 days and Rahul Singla has not found his monkeys.

Who is responsible for the lost monkeys? The system, the animal laws or the wild dept?

What if the monkeys die?

The monkeys Bijju and Simmu were like any other pet animal. They had never lived in the jungle. How fair was the wild dept's decision to take away the monkeys and throw them in the wild and that too without any tracking device?

Animal laws should be used to help the animals and not to penalize them. In this case Laws were used by the wild dept to penalize both the monkeys as well as their caregiver. To listen to the most touching story from Rahul Singla himself go to the link below:

Mani Ratnam a very famous South Indian film maker has been charged with animal cruelty. Peta, India has lodged a complaint against him. During a film shoot a horse died of dehydration and sickness.

It's really sad that such a wonderful film maker who has given one of the best movies to India cinema has indulged in animal cruelty.

Celebrities have a very big role to play because it is they who become role models for the masses.......

It's time the celebrities of India showed compassion and not cruelty towards the voiceless.
