IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) has started a Post Graduate Diploma in Animal Welfare. The minimum eligibility requirement for this course is a graduation degrre in any discipline. The course comprises of core components like  welfare science, welfare ethics, welfare laws and welfare standards. The Programme is initially being offered through 22 Learner Support Centres spread across the country.

This is indeed a great news and a good start. Let's hope in years to come other Universities of India too start with courses on animal welfare. India has all types of animals right from wild animals, domestic animals , companion animals, zoo animals to farm  animals. There is thus a need to have more human professionals in this area.

This will definitely bring a positive change in the sector of Animal welfare.
