During these trying times when most of the states and state machineries of India have disowned the stray animals and left them on the mercy of Animal lovers, activists and  NGOs for their food and water, the state of Karnataka under the able leadership of the Chief Minister Yediyurappa has owned them and told the world that their survival is the state's  responsibility.

The Dept of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary services on Monday (13th April 2020) has acknowledged that the stray animals are states responsibility and the state should do everything possible to feed the stray animals of the state.

The Commissioner of the Dept of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences of Karnataka SR Natesh has said that it is the responsibility of every municipality and corporation of  every area of the state to ensure that the stray dogs and cattle within their jurisdiction do not starve.

He also said that the govt alone cannot feed the animals as the funds required for feeding is beyond their means.

The cost of feeding the animals is beyond rupees one Crores per day.. They came to the cost after assessing the total number of stray dogs and cattle in their state. Hence, they require ndividuals and NGOs to come forward to feed the animals.

He met the animal right activists and NGOs on Monday and gave them assurance of full cooperation from the police. The feeders won't require passes to feed. Also they can feed round the clock without any time restriction.

What is really welcoming about the Karnataka govt is their honesty. They have been honest enough to say that although they don't have enough money to feed the stray animals of their state but they feel responsible for them.. And will give full cooperation to the animal feeders and NGOs of their state who are willing to feed the stray. Also they would be providing them with manpower to feed the animals. This definitely will be a big help for the NGOs and the individual feeders especially in those areas which have been or may be converted in future into hotspots. This is all the stray animals and the feeders want from State authorities. A bit of compassion and a sense of responsibility and ownership towards the voiceless.
