On Saturday the 11th April 2020 dogs from the Sushant Lok area in Gurugram (Delhi NCR - Haryana) were in a very brutal way picked up by legs and put in sacks and relocated. All this was done by the corporation workers. The video of the gruesome act was circulated on the social media and the Sarpanch  and the Deputy Mayor were being held responsible for the act. 

After the video went viral and the incident being published in a newspaper (Amar Ujala) the Gurugram Municipal Corporation came into action. They investigated the matter and found that no such order was given by them to pick up the dogs. 

Hence, the supervisor responsible for picking up the dogs has been dismissed and the contractor who has been entrusted by the corporation for picking up the dogs for the purpose of ABC programme has been called for an explanation. A notice has been issued to him to tell why and how this incident has taken place without the official orders of the corporation? 

This move by the Gurugram Municipal Corporation is indeed laudable. But the question is why would the supervisor or the contractor carry out such an act? There was definitely no written order because law does not permit it but what about informal orders on phone? 

Why would the supervisor or the contractor indulge in such an act?  Doesn't the contractor know the basic law that the dogs cannot be relocated? Let's wait till the explanation comes from the contractor ....

➕Just a word of caution to all the animal feeders across the world. All the animal feeders are doing a great job but they should not forget that with compassion, caution is also very important. The following measures might seem.effective in combating COVID -19. 

1 Wear a mask before going out of the house and remove it only when you are back home

2 While feeding maintain social distancing. Preferably go for feeding alone. Avoid close contact even with your own friends who might be assisting you in feeding 

3 Do not open the milk packets or food packets with teeth. Carry a scissor or a knife along.

4 in case you are driving sanitize your hands or wash it with soap and water before driving a car or riding on a bike after feeding.  

5 Once back home wash your hands nicely with soap and water and remove your mask and don't forget to change your clothes. And if possible do take a shower. 

Remember animals do not spread the virus so do touch them and pat them if you wish but the place where you go for feeding or the food packets you are taking along or the surface which you may have touched  may be contaminated. Therefore it's better to take the above precautions.
