Odisha is a state of India which is famous for its temples especially the age old temple of Jagannath Puri. It is the temple of Lord Vishnu who is considered to be the preserver of the world.
Bhubaneswar the capital of Orissa saw many stray animals like dogs, cats, cows etc roaming on the streets hungry and thirsty post lockdown.
The volunteers of Speak for Animals started a 'hunger free Bhabaneswar' mission on the ,23rd March to ensure that no street animal dies of hunger or thirst during the lockdown.
They urged the Civic bodies to tell people to be compassionate towards animals and ask people to give the animals near their homes food and water. Other NGOs like PFA and Dhyan Foundation too are feeding the animals in the villages in Odisha.
But what is good is that today on 31 March 2020 the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced rupees 54 lakh from Chief Minister's relief fund for feeding the stray animals.
Odisha is not financially as strong as Delhi or Maharashtra but it has shown the world that in times of need it does not disown it's animals. The amount is not very large but the gesture shown by the chief minister has s lot of significance. It will have a great impact on the mind set of it's people towards the voiceless.
Odisha is the first state of India to have announced a financial aid to it's animals during the lockdown period.
