While the whole country has been lockdown because of COVID-19 the stray animals especially those iving on roads and near market areas are starving to death. As markets have all been closed except those giving essential services like grocery, vegetables and milk getting food and water for stray has become a big problem.
The letter from the Animal Welfare Board had already been issued and sent to all the states of India (letter dated 23rd March 2020). It was addressed to the chief secretaries of all states and union territories. The letter clearly specified that feeding the stray animals and birds is necessary to keep them.alive. Hence, during lockdown the feeding should not suffer. If the animals and birds are left unfed they then will soon die of starvation and thirst. This will only create a new problem of dead carcasses spreading infection and diseases in the environment.

It's more than two days now but except the Jammu Municipal Corporation no other corporation has followed the directions issued by the board.
This clearly shows the lack of empathy of the corporations towards these voiceless souls.
EDMC had all the time and money to put out rabies hoardings all over East Delhi and that too when India and the whole world was fighting against the spread of COVID-19. At least now is their chance to show the world that they are genuine and responsible guardians of the stray dogs.
Municipal Corporations of India please wake up and do your duty. Follow the orders of the AWBI and create public awareness about feeding the voiceless.
Mrs Maneka Gandhi, an honourable member of parliament and an animal right activist herself is a strength of pillar for both the voiceless and the caregivers. She has announced that feeder passes are now available from the office of the DCP. So hopefully the feeders should not face any problem now.
Delhi Chief Minister kindly save the animals of your city. Show some compassion and help the government machinery in implementing the orders given by the AWBI.
