Few days back the councilors who are elected represented of the municipal corporation had unanimously passed a decision to put all the dogs in shelters. This decision was taken by the councillors of East Delhi.
After the decision was passed there was a lot of anger and unrest among the animal lovers especially the dog feeders.
Today it has been made clear by the East Delhi Municipal Commissioner and the East Delhi Veterinary Dept Director that the order for such relocation has not yet been issued as it is not permissable by law.
Arti Puri the Co-Founder of Karan Puri Foundation confirmed it with the veterinary director Dr Ranga. According to Dr. Ranga the proposal put forward by the nigam Parishad (councillors) will only be effective if the commissioner approves it and passes an order for the same.
Meanwhile Niharika of PFA (people for animal) has confirmed that the Municipal Commissioner Ms. Dilraj Kaur has not given any such order and has given assurance that the MCD will work according to the laws and as per law there will be no dog relocation in East Delhi.
Isn't this a shame that our elected representatives come out with such unlawful decisions.
But the bigger question is that should novices be allowed to take decisions concerning animals?
Any decision no matter how big or small should be taken only by the bodies and organizations which are into animal welfare. In India this right should lie only with the Animal Welfare Board of India.
It's time now for the AWBI to become stronger and discourage any person or body to make any decision concerning animal life.
Indian politicians especially ones holding chairs and official responsibilities, they should try not to make random decisions, especially ones which amounts to breach of law.
The citizens of India have given them power and they should not forget that with power comes great responsibilities.
They should not make a mockery of themselves and the legal system.
Have the councillors of East Delhi behaved responsibly?
There decision has only widen the gap between dog feeders and dog haters.
Will they now take lawful and humane measures to fill this gap?
