Vikas ( M- 9212000638) a resident of Dilshad Garden, block C is having trouble feeding the stray dogs. A lawyer in his block is threatening him with court case. He isn't only stopping there he has gone a step further instigating others on social media to stop Vikas from feeding the dogs and if he doesn't stop feeding then he will help them file a case against him. One person in the group has asked people to beat all the four dogs and remove them from the area. They are saying that the dogs attack them. If this is how they speak about the dogs then one can well imagine how they must be treating them.
Imagine the kind of mental harassment the caregiver Vikas is going through. Isn't that illegal and inhuman?
The dog haters who are unfortunately in majority just need a bit of counselling. This man - dog conflict is absolutely man made. People don't know how to behave with dogs. They often provoke the dogs and then the dogs bite. They do it just to protect themselves.
Wouldn't we humans do the same if we are kept hungry, thirsty and beaten up with sticks and stones?
This is the fate of almost all the stray dogs of India.
Councillors and respectable members of parliament kindly give right councilling about dog rules, dog behaviour and rabies in your area. All this man-dog and man-man conflict is the result of ignorance and fear.
One of the main culprit which is responsible for so much hatred and fear among people of East Delhi towards dogs are the rabies awareness posters which were put up twice by the east Delhi municipal corporation. Last two years this is all the east Delhi municipal corporation did. And we can see the results of it.
The posters were not only misleading but also obnoxious. Any layman after going through those posters would have cultivated fear and hatred for dogs.
The incomplete and misleading information about rabies is primarily responsible for this dog-man conflict.
Also the municipal corporation has failed to create awareness about the ABC programme. The common man knows nothing about the ABC programme.
Relocation of dogs is an offence.
Just how many people know this law?
How did the population of stray dogs increse so much?
Were the caregivers or the RWA have ever been involved in the ABC programme by the municipal corporations?
Still it is not too late. The councillors of every area kindly send notices to all the RWAs and give them a list of Sterilization centres where they can get the dogs of their area sterilized. Ask them not to indulge in any kind of physical violence against dogs or the caregivers as it is a punishable offence.
And do not waste time in making feeding points which is absolutely impractical because dogs are a territorial animal.
They are not humans who know that this is our dining area and here where we have to eat.
Feeding points are not practical at all. What is practical is to give a dog of an area food and water and lots of love. The east delhi municipal corporation has already wasted a lot of time in first making scary and misleading rabies posters and now coming up with an illegal decision of making shelters for the dogs.
Municipal corporations throughout India the only ethical and legal solution you have is to encourage people to treat the dogs of their area well. Dogs bite or attack only when they scared. If they feel loved and cared they just won't bite or attack.
Stop wasting time in making anti dog and anti feeder decisions.
