Today is 26th January 2020 which happens to be the Republic Day of India. On this historic day the Indian constitution came into effect. It is the governing document of India. No one in India is above this document and all are to respect this very important document whether it be the President, Prime Minster or Chief Ministers or Ministers of India. No one is above the Constitution.

As per the Constitution of India it is the duty of every citizen of India to “protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creatures.”

Does that show in our governance?

For past several months you have witnessed the kind of compassion we Indians including our honourable minsters, mayors, councillors and government officials have exhibited towards our four legged friends.

Today you will witness the compassion the same people are exhibiting towards other animals of India especially the wild life.

In the state of Bihar the government has taken a decision to kill the blue cow (Neel Gaye) which is a species of cow which is quite rare and found in India. The decision has been taken to curb their population. Thanks again to the government's faulty policy of erratic and unplanned urbanization. They have destroyed the forest mindlessly which is now forcing the cows to graze into the farmland. No doubt the farmers are finding it tough to protect their farms from the cows but is killing them the only solution? This is definitely a quick fix solution which can never curtail their population in the long run.

In another incident a cow was brutally tortured. The miscreants had cut her neck with a knife. What kind of men are those who find enjoyment in an animal's suffering. What can be more cruel and barbaric than this?

In another incident of cruelty a leopard was killed by the local villagers  of Jammu and Kashmir. No where in the video one finds remorse or guilt on the faces of the killers.

All the above incidents have taken place in the same week when India celebrates its Republic Day.

How shameful. Are we Indians really honouring our Constitution? What's the point of hoisting our national flag and singing the national anthem when we can't save and protect our Constitution which clearly tells us to safeguard our natural flora and fauna.

Indias national animal is tiger but a tigress Avni was brutally murdered in the state of Maharashtra a year back and no action was taken against the culprits including the shooters. Instead the same shooters are  now being hired  to kill the blue cow in the state of Bihar.

The Prime Minister of India was featured on the discovery channel with Bear Grylls on a very famous programme titled ''Man Vs Wild"

The programme sent a very positive message to the world about India and it's wild life. But the inside reality is pathetic and far from what has been showcased.

I request our honourable Prime Minister to focus his attention towards the animals of our country who are living in constant fear including the man's best friend.

Make the environment ministry stronger. Make the Forset department free from corruption and punish the shooters of Avni our national animal rather than getting them hired for shooting now the blue cows. Make our animal welfare laws strong and implementable. Do now allow animals to be killed and starved to death in the name of swachhta.

The father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi said "The growth of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated"

I salute all my fellow Indians who work tirelessly for bringing a smile and good life to the animals of our nation. In spite of all the opposition, resistance and humiliation they suffer on daily basis.

Jai Hind, Jai Bharat
