On 25th morning in Lajpat Nagar 4, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation picked up seven sterilized dogs. The stray dog rule says that only the unsterilized dogs can be picked up. According to the reporter Swagata (M-9711594377) the dogs were picked up in response to complaints made by the local residents. The residents had complained on the basis of a video.  A video captured on  CCTV showed that few dogs in the night came running towards a man and attacked him. The man was alone and he definitely got frightened seeing so many dogs barking and rushing towards him.

The video is now being analysed by various people differently. The ignorant people who do not know about dog behaviour  are  saying that the dogs are ferocious and rabid. There is another group of people who are  knowledgeable and know about dog behavior. According to them seeing a stranger in the area and that too at night the dogs run towards them just to ensure that the stranger is not a thief or any threat to them.

Remember dogs are natural guards. The dogs in the video were just doing their duty. They were neither rabid nor lions who tore the victim apart. They ultimately let him go. And if we see the video properly there is a car leaving the vicinity just before the victim comes to the scene and after the victim leaves a man with a thick and heavy stick enters the scene. The man most probably is a security guard. These are people who often beat the dogs with sticks on the orders given to them by their employer the RWA and at times by the local residents.

How do we feel when we are empty stomach or are thirsty or are abused and beaten up by people around us. This happens on a daily basis with dogs living in India.

During night time the dogs generally roam about in search of food. They can be easily spotted near the garbage bins. The dogs in the video too may have been roaming in search of food or some prior incident may have provoked them to act the way they did with the victim.

Anyway these voiceless souls cannot tell us what provoked  them to behave in such a manner.  but had they received food, water and a warm bedding in the cold winter night of Delhi then probably they would have been sleeping and this incident could have been easily avoided.

Based on the video and the complaints of the local residents the MCD  picked up the dogs  early in the morning in the most cruel fashion. They have been kept in a nearby shelter home which is actually a Sterilization unit.

Anyway the relevant point here is that the dog population has increased in Delhi and dogs roam.around in packs.

People entering colonies or any unkown area are often chased by dogs that too in packs. This frightens them which is quite natural for any human being.

But this does not only happen in Delhi. This is quite common in many parts of India. Thanks to the faulty implementation of the ABC programme in Delhi. And no implementation of the ABC programme In many other parts of India. Those areas are probably  waiting for a national disaster to happen with more dog bites, more dog killings, more drama and more violence before they start a Sterilization unit.

Now let's analyse why this is happening:

1 There is complete lack of Indian breed dog adoption. They roam as stray dogs. Due to ineffective ABC programme their population has increased and they generally stay in packs. Dogs of a particular territory stay together in packs. And  it is their natural instinct to run after speeding vehicles or a running man. And they generally do this in pack. One dog Starts  barking or chasing a person and very soon others join him.

2  there is a need for more dog feeders so that one feeder feeds only one to two dogs. This will make the territory of the dog smaller and their movement in packs will  greatly reduce. Remember dog by nature likes to be in close proximity to a human being than to his siblings or family. That is the reason why he is called man's best friend. But most of the Indians don't understand this.

4 People do not know how to handle stray dogs and there is complete lack of awareness about dog behaviour. One should never run in front of dogs and once they approach in pack one should just stand still. Running is the biggest mistake which people often do and get bitten.

Anyway what is MCD gaining by picking up the sterilized dogs? It's quite obvious from the video that the dogs were just trying to guard their territory. They are neither ferocious nor rabid.

How many times has the MCD visited the locality on the complaint of a caregiver or a dog feeder when he or she is being harassed for feeding the dogs?

How many times have they taken action against people who have beaten the dogs or even murdered them? Haven't they ever seen videos of human cruelty on dogs?

What kind of preserver is MCD of the stray dogs?

The step taken by the South Delhi municipal has set up a wrong precedent.

Late at night there were reports that the residents of Lajpat Nagar 4 are now planning to poison the puppies residing in the area. This has been reported by the caregiver Jyoti ( M- 9810525049)

Wihat steps will the MCD take to protect  the puppies?

We all know the answer.

MCD should change the ways it's handling dog man conflict and dog populatiin.

Can it tell us how picking up the dogs in the most cruel fashion solved the problem shown in the video?

Rather it has increased the tension and send wrong signals to the common man especially the dog haters. They feel now that killing dogs and relocating them is the most feasible and legal solution to end the dog man conflict.

What other reason can the MCD give for picking up the dogs?

Do they believe that the other dogs in the neighbourhood will see the video of dog catching and get warned? Has the MCD set an example for other dogs to see that this will what will happen to them if they don't behave. So they better behave in future.

Will the dogs now stop living in packs and stop chasing bikes, scooters and running men especially during night?

MCD officials  please think?
