Today a young feeder Urvashi (M- 8750719644 ) was harassed by the RWA of pocket B, Mayur Vihar Phase 2 an East Delhi colony for feeding the dogs.
There are around 12 to 13 dogs residing in and around Jal Board office which happens to be in pocket B. These dogs were earlier being fed by Nancy a caregiver residing in East Vinod Nagar (colony adjacent to Mayur Vihar Phase 2).
Why would a person from adjacent colony take the trouble of feeding the dogs of another locality if the people residing in the colony feed their own dogs?
It's quite clear that people of this area do not care for the stray dogs. Do nothing for their feeding or for their Sterilization.
Nancy (M- 9560176384) was harassed constantly for feeding the dogs of the area by the RWA. They even accused her of being a thief and tried to stop her movement in the colony.
Recently Nancy shifted her residence so in her place Urvashi and her friends are now feeding the dogs.
Urvashi and her friends feed the dogs early in the morning before going to the office but today Urvashi was stopped from feeding the dogs by the RWA and the residents of that area.
Just few weeks back the RWA had manhandled one of it's own residents Mr. Mahender Singh (M- 8130286396) for feeding the stray dogs of the area and for bringing his pet dogs for a walk in the park.
Urvashi a bold young girl didn't surrender to their demands and faced them with courage all alone. The police was called but unfortunately they too sided with the RWA.
The RWA was stopping her to feed on two grounds and the police didn't find that objectionable:
1 She is not the resident of the colony as she stays in Pocket A so she should not be allowed to enter the colony for feeding the dogs as this might lead to thefts in the colony. They have threatened Urvashi that they will accuse her of theft if she doesn't stop feeding the dogs in future. Nothing can be more insulting and humiliating for any Indian whose sole purpose is to help and feed the helpless.
2. Dogs bite their children and therefore they should be either starved to death or relocated somewhere else.
All the two grounds are absolutely baseless and stupid.
As per animal protection laws the caregivers cannot be stopped from feeding the dogs especially if the animal has no one to take care of. And the police is to give protection to such caregivers.
There is a myth which is attached with the caregivers of the capital city.
The RWAs and dog haters firmly believe that the dog feeders and caregivers get funds from the NGOs and government for feeding the dogs. They do not know that the caregivers are selfless souls who face abuses, manhandling and all kinds of humiliation just for the love of their four legged friends. They are not only feeding the dogs from their own pockets but also getting them sterilized and vaccinated.
These people should be thanked for their contribution to the society but instead they are cursed and abused by the majority of people who are misinformed and ill-informed
Dogs do not bite without provocation. If the adults have suchh horrible and negative attitude towards dogs then we can well imagine what kind of education they must be gving to their kids.
Killing of dogs by beating them to death or by poisoning them has become a common practice in the city of Delhi. And the RWAs have become the torch bearers in this most unlawful and heinous way of controlling dog overpopulation.
Why doesn't our government educate people especially the RWA about dog laws and dog behaviour?
ABC programme is the only lawful solution for dog overpopulation then why isn't the RWA being told by the Government to support and participate in the implemention of the ABC programme in their respective colonies.
The Delhi Government has done a commendable job in the area of school education.
Are they aware that it is the children in the slums who are most vulnerable to dog bites and rabies?
Why doesn't the government educate these young minds about dog behaviour and how they can avoid dog bites and befriend dogs.
Let's face the truth. India has millions of stray dogs and starving them to death or killing them is not a humane or a lawful solution but unfortunately that is what is being done by most of the people in India especially the RWAs.
Whose responsibility is it to tell them and educate them about rabies, dog behavior and the ABC programme?
It's sheer lack of ignorance about dog behaviour and dog laws which is creating so much of rift between the caregivers and the RWAs.
Why is the Delhi government silent on this very important issue?
Why does the government come into action only when there is a situation of emergency?
Is the government waiting for that day.
