Make Housing Affordable and Accessible

The Issue

For many people like myself and family, buying a home remains an elusive dream due to the staggering costs involved. With rising interest rates, exorbitant fees, and a notable lack of grant funding, we are on the brink of being forced out of the neighborhoods we love, simply because housing is too expensive.

Current policies and market conditions have created significant hurdles for prospective homeowners. There's an urgent need to address these issues by implementing measures that can alleviate the financial burden on buyers, make housing more affordable, and ensure it remains accessible to everyone.

One practical solution is to introduce caps on the fees associated with buying a home. Establishing regulations on PMI/MPI (Private Mortgage Insurance/Mortgage Protection Insurance) could significantly reduce the financial pressure on homebuyers. Eliminating these fees or offering a grace period could make a meaningful difference.

In addition, increasing grant funding and creating alternative financing options such as zero-interest loans for first-time homebuyers would empower more individuals to enter the housing market.

It's also crucial to address the supply and demand issues by considering policies that limit the number of homes owned by a single person or entity. This could prevent monopolization of properties and keep prices fair for first-time buyers and families.

Our communities deserve better, and it's time to take decisive action to make housing a reality for everyone, not just the privileged few. Sign this petition to urge local and national policymakers to make housing affordable and accessible, thereby preventing people like my family from being priced out of our neighborhoods.
