Make Hasketon Village Safer
The Issue
Hasketon is a wonderful village to live in. It has a long history and a proud heritage, especially during the World Wars. Our population of roughly 400 people of all ages includes children and the more elderly.
We are lucky to have a pub, a village green with a children's playground, garden allotments, an ancient Church and a Village Hall which together form the central parts of our Community. And we are surrounded by countryside which we can access via many footpaths and Quiet Lanes. In addition, National Cycle Route 1 runs through the village.
But to move within the village pedestrians have to walk along, or cross, Blacksmiths and Boulge Roads, and this can be hazardous because of the speed of many cars, lorries and motor bikes that travel through the heart of the village in a hurry. It is especially precarious for parents pushing prams, children walking to and from the bus stop outside the Village Hall, and the elderly. Traffic will get significantly worse when the A12 works begin and as Sizewell traffic increases.
In short, moving around the heart of our village is not relaxing, peaceful or safe!
We suggest that reducing the speed limit to 20mph within Hasketon would help, as it has in other villages. The 20mph limit would extend from the existing speed limit signs on entry to Hasketon on Boulge Road from the direction of Bredfield, and on Blacksmiths Road coming from Manor Road.
If you reside in the Parish of Hasketon and would like to support our efforts to get the speed limit reduced to 20mph please sign the petition on change.org by using the QR Code below. Signing the petition is absolutely free.
Thank you in advance for your support which will help demonstrate the strength of local support for the proposal.
