The Issue

We, the undersigned, request that the Pickens County Council recognize the  Greenville Pickens Speedway as a historic site and protect it from demolition or changes that would alter its historic character.

The Speedway is a unique piece of our county’s heritage and should be preserved for future generations.

This track was built in 1940.   It’s the location of the first ever televised car race.  It has names of champions dating all the way back to 1957 on the historic wall around the racetrack .  It is the second oldest NASCAR racetrack.  A staple piece of history for NASCAR and South Carolina.
