The Issue

Summary:

We, the undersigned, are calling on the Council (and seeking support from TfL) to remove dangerous parking along Green Lanes.

Heavy parking on both sides makes the area unsafe, congested and unwelcoming. Pedestrians, cyclists and bus users face poor visibility, unsafe crossings, slow buses, and some of the worst air quality in the borough.

During roadworks the area becomes completely gridlocked - meaning that children can't get to school, people can't get to work and local businesses suffer.

Just last week a motorcyclist was critically injured — another incident on a stretch already known for some of the borough’s worst road safety statistics. Lime bikes and e-bikes are forced onto busy pavements because there’s no space on the road, increasing risks for everyone.

We're calling on Haringey Council to:

  • Permanently remove parking along both sides of Green Lanes from Harringay Green Lanes Station to Turnpike Lane Station (paid and business parking still available on cross streets (Devon Gardens, Essex Gardens etc)
  • Remove all parking at the side street headers
  • Create safer crossings and more space for walking and cycling
  • Improve bus flow and cut congestion by implementing 24hr bus lanes
  • Support local businesses with a more attractive, greener high street

Why this matters:

Clearing parking will make Green Lanes a stronger draw for customers, with a better, more welcoming environment for dining, shopping, walking and cycling. A cleaner, greener and more open high street benefits residents, businesses and visitors alike — making Green Lanes the vibrant destination it deserves to be.

Sign to support a safer, healthier, more thriving Green Lanes for all.
