As a devoted fan of the Gorillaz, I was thrilled when Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett mentioned in an interview with Absolute Radio that the band might 'become babies again.' To me, this was more than just a throwaway comment—it felt like a promise, a promise I hope will be fulfilled. The thought of seeing the band characters as infants in a new creative phase fuels my excitement and imagination.
The Gorillaz have always been innovative, pushing the envelope with each phase, and an infant-themed concept could be their most unique project yet. Imagine the Gorillaz characters turning into adorable toddlers, navigating the world in a nursery setting in West London. Picture the chaos and creativity as they inadvertently produce their 10th or 11th album by playing around with a studio mixing desk, showing the ups and downs of being G-Bitez in a private nursery.
I Can already imagine the personalities of the babies and how they will be recognizable, Murdoc being "The Brat" still being the boss, still pushing 2-D Around, not wanting to follow the rules. 2-D Being totally spaced out, being a pacifier addict as the baby equivalent to his old painkillers in the first few phases. Noodle being the smart one, with her ability to still comprehend some concepts, like instruments and culture, but still, being a baby. and Russel big the big strong argument settler, as the voice of reason, like he always is. whenever 2- and Murdoc start to cry after a scuffle, Russel comes in and calms them down by sharing a toy.
I understand that Phase Nine is currently in progress, but keeping the prospect open for Phase Ten or beyond is crucial to us fans who cherish every ounce of creativity they bring forth. Damon and Jamie’s earlier comments felt like a promise—a commitment to exploring fun, fresh ideas—and we, the fans, are eagerly waiting for it to happen.
Not only would this concept be fun, it would also bring a new layer to the Gorillaz narrative, captivating a whole new generation of fans while maintaining the band’s core identity. Let's inspire Damon, Jamie, and the team to take this step into the world of childlike wonder and creativity.
