Update 31 july : petition acknowledged by decision makers
Cr Terry Landsberg presented our petition to a Sunshine Coast Council meeting on 23 July.
The petition and its contents, shared by Council, have also been acknowledged by Tony Sowden, Chair of the Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority:
"Thank you for your email and for sharing the petition regarding dredging at Golden Beach to support safe water sports activities, and the restriction of baited crab pots to reduce safety risks in the area.
The Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority (SCWA) is currently building its team and preparing to commence work on a Waterways Management Strategy for the Sunshine Coast. The strategy will set the direction for the sustainable use, management and development of Sunshine Coast waterways over the next 10 years, identifying future needs and priorities having regard to the benefits for, and impacts on, the local community, environment, marine industries, tourism and the economy.
In that context, the petition is a valuable early contribution to SCWA’s work. As the strategy is developed, community feedback will be important in helping SCWA understand local priorities and perspectives.
A key part of SCWA’s role will be to work in partnership with councils, community stakeholders and relevant government agencies to support a coordinated approach to waterway management across the Sunshine Coast. In that regard, I look forward to establishing a strong working relationship with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Council will be an important partner in this work, and I am keen to work closely with you from the outset.
Thank you again for bringing the petition to my attention.
Yours sincerely,
Tony Sowden
Chair
Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority"
