Make Globe Road Safer for Hylands Primary School Community

The Issue

This petition is on behalf of my son, Ronnie. He is in Year 6 at Hylands Primary School and his younger brother Oliver is in Year 4. Last week, a school pupil was injured in an accident involving a car on Globe Road - the very road we all must walk down to reach our school. The day of the accident, Ronnie was devastated and has since been determined to make a change.

It is a heart-wrenching situation for any parent to witness such an incident and feel a sense of helplessness. Unfortunately  reckless driving is a daily occurrence along this road with parents causing chaos with their cars, arguing with eachother, causing congestion and a stressful environment for everyone. Making it near impossible to get to school or simply cross the road safely. Many people have known this road as an 'accident waiting to happen' for years and we should not wait for another incident to stir us into action.

Globe Road is used by many - our pupils, staff, parents and local residents. Everyone has a right to safety, no one should fear for their lives while simply trying to access education or return home. Sadly, 10 young children (aged seven or under) are killed or seriously injured on British roads every week. This is equivalent to 27 children being killed or seriously injured every 19 days.  This is not just about our school, this is about the safety of our children, our neighbourhood and our communities.

We implore local authorities to implement safety measures that will make our everyday commute to school safer. Together we can reduce the odds of another tragic accident and ensure a safer environment for our children.

Make a difference. Stand with Ronnie, and the rest of the Hylands community. Sign this petition and help make Globe Road safer for everyone.
