Make Glasgow City Council Help Gaza

The Issue

Why has Glasgow City Council not shown true support for Gaza and the people of Palestine?

Israel has conducted a systematic campaign of mass murder, ethnic cleansing and destruction of homes, hospitals, mosques, churches and other vital infrastructure.

Over 22,000 people have now been slaughtered, mostly children and women, with almost 60,000 wounded. Many more still lie unaccounted for under the rubble and in makeshift morgues. Over 1000 children have suffered amputations without anaesthesia. Over 100 journalists have been murdered. Gaza’s entire 2.4 million population is facing mass displacement, starvation and disease. People are struggling for basic survival in squalid conditions. It is a killing rate and human catastrophe of staggering proportions.

As the carnage continues, it seems unconscionable that our own City Council has still not moved to condemn the genocide, break connections with the apartheid regime, and demonstrate true solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Admirably, South Africa has now invoked the Genocide Convention, prompting a formal investigation by the International Court of Justice into Israel’s genocidal crimes.

South Africa’s historic lead offers another vital reason for Glasgow - the ‘city of Mandela’, that stood against South African apartheid - to now stand  decisively against Israel’s apartheid, occupation and genocide.

Which side of history will Glasgow be on?

Please sign this petition urging Glasgow Council to condemn the genocide and initiate GGEC’s proposed motion of support for Gaza and Palestine.
