The "Step Free, Step Forward Gipsy Hill" campaign is a community-driven initiative that seeks to address the pressing need for improved accessibility at Gipsy Hill station. With an aging population and the growing recognition of the rights of people with disabilities, it is essential that our local infrastructure evolves to meet these needs.

This campaign, supported by Gipsy Hill residents, community organizations, and local stakeholders, advocates for the installation of step-free access to platform 2, ensuring that everyone can navigate our transportation system with ease and independence. Together, our united voice demands action to create an inclusive environment for all members of our community.

For individuals like myself, daily routines such as family-frequented travels become an uphill battle at Gipsy Hill Station. As a father, I routinely experience the impracticability of navigating the station's Platform 2 with my child's buggy. For individuals with limited mobility or those carrying heavy items such as bicycles, or supermarket goods, this task becomes laborious, if not impossible.

This platform is a part of a journey for many of us daily, yet it lacks essential facilities to ensure equality of access, particularly for those who are wheelchair-bound, families with baby buggies, and cyclists. Our voices and needs must be acknowledged.

Research by the Department for Transport showed that 1 in 4 disabled people avoid public transportation due to concerns about infrastructure (Department for Transport, 2020). This aligns with my experiences and those of many others who attempt to utilize Gipsy Hill Station's Platform 2. This level of exclusion is simply unacceptable.

By making Platform Two step-free accessible, Gipsy Hill Station will openly cater to all, regardless of physical mobility, and send a message that everyone is welcomed and valued. The time for change is now. It's time for Gipsy Hill Station to prioritise better access for everyone, including families like mine, wheelchair users, cyclists, and so on.
