Make Fort Lauderdale Safe Again: Take Urgent Action on the Homeless Crisis
The Issue
The homelessness crisis in Fort Lauderdale has reached an unsustainable and alarming level. What began as a manageable issue has now spiraled into a citywide emergency — one that has grown rapidly, especially in the wake of the passage of HB1365 and the lack of enforcement in Fort Lauderdale.
Our public spaces, sidewalks, and neighborhoods are no longer safe or accessible for many residents. Women, in particular, have expressed fear for their safety — not only at night, but even during broad daylight. This is not acceptable in a city that prides itself on being a walkable city.
We are calling on our city, county, and state leaders to acknowledge the gravity of this situation and act immediately. Compassion and safety are not mutually exclusive. We must implement a comprehensive and effective strategy to address homelessness — one that includes increased access to mental health service
