Make Downtown Santa Rosa Parking Affordable for Business Owners and Employees

The Issue

Parking rates recently went up by +$1 an hour in a majority of Downtown Santa Rosa, and garage rates have gone up to, on average, $1 an hour. This leaves many small business owners and employees with two options: park far away and walk (if capable) or purchase a parking permit. All “affordable” parking permits currently available in the Downtown Santa Rosa area are on the outskirts of the downtown area, usually allowing you to park in lots on 1st and 7th street. Walking is not always safe in these areas.

My name is Bella Sardina. My mom and I have owned a salon on 4th street for over 5 years. Currently, we pay $10+ a day for parking in the 5th street garage with no affordable permits available.

Our proposal: A revision of parking rates and a possible mirror hanger to distinguish individuals who work in the downtown area from individuals who are indulging in it, allowing employees and business owners to access cheaper or free parking rates.

THESE NEW RATES WILL DESTROY THE INCOME OF SMALL BUSINESSES.
