Help Us Make Downtown Morgan Hill Safer for Everyone!

Walking through downtown shouldn’t feel like a daily game of dodge-the-car, but lately that’s exactly what it feels like. Even with the lightwalk crosswalks, speeding and distracted drivers are still a huge problem. It’s honestly scary, not just for me, but for parents, kids, and anyone trying to enjoy our community.

Morgan Hill has such a charming, lively downtown, and it deserves to feel safe. Turning the core area into a pedestrian-only zone could make a huge difference. It would give kids a safer route to school, let families walk around without constantly looking over their shoulders, and make the whole area more enjoyable for residents and visitors. Plus, it would encourage more people to shop, eat, and hang out at our local businesses.

Other cities, Santa Monica and Boulder, have already made the switch and have seen fewer accidents and more foot traffic for local shops. There’s no reason Morgan Hill couldn’t see the same benefits.

We’re asking the Morgan Hill City Council and local leaders to seriously consider this change. Adding permanent barriers or bollards and rerouting through-traffic could finally put pedestrians and cyclists first. Our community, especially our kids, shouldn’t have to risk their safety just to cross the street.
