The Issue

Dolly Parton was more than a country music legend. She was a songwriter, actress, philanthropist, businesswoman, and cultural icon whose music and generosity touched generations of people around the world. We are asking that September 25 — 9/25 — be recognized as Dolly Parton Day, in honor of Dolly and her iconic song and film 9 to 5. The date 9/25 provides a uniquely fitting way to celebrate Dolly’s legacy each year. 9 to 5 became one of her signature songs and an enduring anthem for working people, while Dolly herself spent decades using her success to help others. Through initiatives such as the Imagination Library, Dolly helped provide books to children around the world. Her contributions to music, film, literacy, education, and her home state of Tennessee have left an impact that extends far beyond entertainment. Every September 25, fans could celebrate Dolly’s life by listening to her music, watching her films, supporting literacy programs, performing acts of kindness, and carrying forward the generosity and joy for which she was known. 9/25 already means “9 to 5.” Let’s make it mean Dolly, too. We respectfully ask that September 25 be officially recognized as Dolly Parton Day in celebration of her extraordinary life, career, and legacy. 💗🦋 All in all, she was a Doll, had a huge Part in our lives, and always will. #LLDP
