Make Dog Tethering and Penning a Federal Offense Nationwide

Make Dog Tethering and Penning a Federal Offense Nationwide
The Issue
I write with a heavy heart and deep concern about a distressing sight that has become far too common in my southern home - the chaining and penning of dogs. Witnessing this cruelty has stirred up a feeling of undying need to fight against this inhumanity perpetrated against innocent dogs.
Dog tethering and penning causes numerous physical and psychological problems for these animals who are meant to live freely. According to the Humane Society of the United States, tethered dogs are more likely to bite and become aggressive due to constant confinement and lack of social interaction. Additionally, tethering restricts dogs from accessing shelter and often leads to injury, suffering, and sometimes death due to entanglement.
It's disheartening to observe that states with lenient regulations on dog tethering, like my southern home, are where these practices are mostly seen. It's about time we stopped depending on the varied state laws, some of which are laden with backward thinking, to rule on this matter. Equating our furry friends to mere property that one can tether at will is primitive.
We must urge our lawmakers to take this matter seriously and enact a nationwide federal law criminalizing the tethering and penning of dogs. It's time we protected these sentient beings from abuse, establishing them as what they truly are - living creatures and not just properties.
Let's make dog tethering and penning a federal offense nationwide, giving every dog the freedom they deserve. Please, show your support and sign this petition. Together, we can make a difference.
