The Issue

As conscious consumers, it is essential for us to have the right to know what we are consuming. Given the broad spectrum of religious and personal food gifts in the UK, transparency is a matter of human rights and dignity. This concern comes from understanding that there are multiple religious groups as well as an increasing number of individuals who have made the personal choice to abstain from halal meat. For all of us, being able to make an informed decision about what we consume is not just fair, but a necessity.

Today, there are no legal requirements for food establishments in the UK to clearly advertise when halal meat is being used in their products. This lack of transparency has a significant impact on consumer's rights and choices. According to the UK Office of National Statistics, around 5% of the UK population is Muslim. This means that a large proportion of our population could be unknowingly consuming halal meat, either against their personal or religious preferences.

To uphold consumer rights, build trust between consumers and food establishments, and respect our diverse community, it is crucial that we change this. We demand the UK government make it a legal requirement for food establishments to clearly indicate if and when halal meat is being used in their products.

Can you imagine unknowingly consuming something against your principles? To prevent this from happening to anyone else, it's time we demand change. Please sign and share this petition if you believe in our right to choose what we consume.
