The Issue

I am a student in Delhi, a city renowned for its educational institutions like Delhi University, often ranked in the top 350 globally. But what is the point of having prestigious universities if the air we breathe is slowly poisoning us? Each day, as I venture to my classes, I'm reminded of the stark reality that our education means little if our basic right to a safe and healthy environment is compromised.

Delhi is my home, and like many of my peers, I have dreams of making a difference. Yet, with the air quality being so dire, there are days when just getting through the day feels like a monumental task. Breathing itself becomes a challenge, clouding every aspect of life with a constant health hazard. If we can't live decently as humans, what is the point of our education?

The Issue:

The pollution in Delhi is not just a periodic problem but a silent crisis affecting millions. One of the major contributors to the apocalyptic smog that envelopes our city is the widespread practice of crop burning. Year after year, during certain seasons, Delhi becomes a gas chamber, making outdoor activities hazardous and forcing schools and businesses to shut down.

Our Demands:

- Immediate Policy Reformation: Enforce stricter regulations on crop burning. Penalize offenders while providing viable alternatives.
- Long-term Clean-Air Measures: Implement measures like enhancing public transportation, promoting electric vehicles, and urban afforestation.
- Support for Farmers: Allocate funds and resources to help farmers destroy or recycle their stubble. Introduce cost-effective technology that they can use to avoid burning.
- Accountability and Transparency: Ensure an honest reporting protocol from authorities about pollution levels and enact consequences for negligence

A Call to Action:

Delhi’s situation demands unity and collaboration. I implore every citizen and influencer to join us in this cause. We need voices to rise and accompany ours in this battle for clean air.

It is imperative that we act now. DU may be in the top 350, but is Delhi even livable? For the sake of our city and our futures, I urge you to sign this petition and demand our right to a breathable future. Your signature is not just support—it's a lifeline for millions.

Let's stand together and fight for a livable Delhi. Sign now and make a difference.
